Place
In 1901, Guglielmo Marconi received the first Transatlantic signal from the top of Signal Hill. In 1995, Great Big Sea moved into the space where Genesis now resides, recording multiple chart toppers and becoming Newfoundland and Labrador icons.
Not long after Great Big Sea, the space was home to ZeddComm, now known as Bluedrop (TSX-V: BPL), an e-learning company with over 200 employees. After Bluedrop was Cathexis (now Radient360), a Genesis graduate company that secured its first significant contract with a large oil and gas company before leaving what would become Genesis’ home.
Genesis' location is rich in history. The building formerly known as The Battery is now the Emera Innovation Exchange (EIX), part of Memorial University's Signal Hill Campus (SHC). EIX is Memorial's public engagement and innovation space. Genesis shares the space with Memorial's Gardiner Centre, Harris Centre, Office of Public Engagement, Conference and Event Services, Business and Arts NL, the Newfoundland Quarterly, and the Memorial University of Newfoundland Pensioners' Association. We regularly collaborate with the SHC community and look forward to more opportunities to do so.
After moving to the Emera Innovation Exchange in 2018, this amazing space continues to help Genesis grow! Our open-concept, modern, and collaborative workspace extends over two floors and enables Genesis to foster a strong community and culture for tech startups.
