Genesis expands supports to local startup ecosystem through Coworking

Genesis is expanding its presence in the local startup ecosystem, announcing today that Memorial's innovation hub has assumed the operations of Common Ground Coworking.

Common Ground Coworking is St. John's first coworking space. It offers individuals and small teams from all sectors an inspiring place to work and collaborate, offering month-by-month coworking, fixed desk and private office memberships with access to professional boardrooms and all maintenance and amenities provided.

As well, Genesis is re-opening the Common Ground Coworking space and services under a new brand: Genesis Coworking.

Genesis Coworking will enable Genesis to continue to help build promising and innovative companies. Clients of the Common Ground space are complementary to the current Genesis portfolio of companies, as well as to its current suite of programming.

Michelle Simms, president and CEO, Genesis, says the founders and board of directors of Common Ground Coworking are to be commended for their dedication, commitment and investment in the entrepreneurial community thus far.

"They have been tireless volunteers working to create and develop a community of entrepreneurs, partners and innovators," she said. "Genesis would also like to thank the YMCA for its operational support of Common Ground during the past several years. We are very excited to announce the launch of Genesis Coworking as the next stage for our growing organization. Over the years, Genesis has developed a great working relationship with Common Ground, and we are happy to welcome them into the Genesis community.”

“Common Ground is a place of inspiration, collaboration and community, and we are thrilled through this acquisition that the next chapter under the Genesis brand will build on that vision," said Craig Tucker, chairperson, Common Ground Coworking. "I can’t think of a better fit as we continue to support and help facilitate the important work that happens here every day.”

Genesis is committed to maintaining current operations, keeping the spirit of Common Ground alive and supporting the community it has created in fine form.
