Six Tech Companies Celebrate Graduation from Transformative Program
St. John’s, NL: Milksta, North Star Payroll, NotificationAPI, Nucliq Biologics, Prospre, and SiftMed can now be counted among the alumni of Genesis’ Enterprise incubator. Enterprise is Genesis’ flagship program, which helps develop growth stage technology startups from their first customer to $1M in annual recurring revenues.
Out of the six graduating ventures, four are founded or co-founded by women, which is a high-water mark for Genesis’ Enterprise graduates. Thanks to initiatives like the Women in Tech peer group and the Belonging program, women founders have grown from accounting for zero per cent of Genesis’ clients in 2014 to as high as 40 per cent in recent years. This represents a significant cultural and social shift for the Enterprise portfolio and is cause for celebration.
One of those women co-founders is SiftMed CEO Holly Hill who shared, “At SiftMed, our biggest passion is the product we’re building and helping improve the world of medical data analysis. Alongside this, we’re passionate about creating growth in the province. Newfoundland and Labrador’s startup ecosystem is full of resilient entrepreneurs with amazing support from across the community and we're lucky that it's filled with such innovation. It’s incredible to celebrate this milestone of graduating from the Genesis Enterprise program and we’re grateful for everyone who has been a part of this journey."
Dr. Neil Bose, president and vice-chancellor of Memorial University, emphasizes the thriving spirit of entrepreneurship within our university community, as reflected in the significant participation of numerous students and alumni in Genesis programs. "Memorial celebrates these six Genesis ventures as examples of a remarkable entrepreneurial spirit here in the province. Through my past experience volunteering on Genesis' board of directors, I've witnessed firsthand their exciting journeys. The diversity, creativity and will of these founders shows how capable we are of producing bright business minds. On behalf of everyone at Memorial. congratulations and we look forward to your future impact."
Genesis and its client portfolio have also benefitted greatly from the support of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and the Department of Industry, Energy and Technology.
“Genesis gives entrepreneurs from Newfoundland and Labrador a leg up and is helping make our province a great place to live, work and invest,” said the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA. “Congratulations to the six companies graduating from this year’s Enterprise program during small business week – wishing you all the best on the next step of your journey!”
“Our government is proud to support the Genesis Enterprise Incubator and the many programs that help early-stage companies in our province,” said the Honourable Andrew Parsons, KC, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology. “This latest round of graduates will help grow our province’s technology sector and create more opportunities for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. Today’s graduates will undoubtedly pave the way for more success stories in the future, and I commend them on their hard work.”
“The caliber of Enterprise graduates each year keeps exceeding our expectations, and we’re proud to see another class of amazing companies this year.” Remarked Michelle Simms, President & CEO of Genesis. “We’re particularly delighted to see over half the graduating founders are women. We’ve put a lot of effort into increasing the participation and success of women in tech, and these results speak for themselves!”
