Genesis Announces Ed Martin as New CEO
Genesis is pleased to announce that Ed Martin has been appointed its President and Chief Executive Officer, effective November 4, 2024.
As Newfoundland and Labrador's pre-eminent innovation hub, Genesis welcomes Ed's leadership to help shape the organization's future direction. With an extensive background in technology, entrepreneurship, and mentoring, he brings a fresh perspective and a deep passion for fostering the success of startups.
Ed's experience speaks for itself. As the Director of the Memorial Centre for Entrepreneurship (MCE), he's been instrumental in mentoring the next generation of innovators, helping students from all disciplines solve real-world problems through creative business solutions. Before that, Ed co-founded and led Clockwork Fox Studios, the creators of the popular education platform Zorbit's Math Adventure, used by hundreds of thousands of teachers and students across North America. He successfully led the company through to its acquisition in 2021.
Ed is no stranger to the broader creative world either—he's worked as President/Producer at Best Boy Entertainment, where he produced the award-winning film Closet Monster, which took home Best Canadian Feature at the Toronto International Film Festival. His entrepreneurial journey stretches back even further to his founding of the Memorial University chapter of Engineers Without Borders, which brought him to Zambia for a year to work on projects aimed at poverty alleviation.
Ed holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Memorial University, an MBA from Queen's University, and a Graduate Diploma in Communication Studies from Concordia University.
"We are delighted to welcome Ed," said Sherry Walsh, Chair of the Genesis Board of Directors. "His unique mix of tech expertise and deep commitment to the entrepreneurial ecosystem makes him ideally suited to advance Genesis's mission."
For Ed, this new role is more than just a leadership position—it's a chance to give back to a community he feels strongly connected to. "Genesis is one of the pillars of our entrepreneurial ecosystem, and I couldn't be more honoured and excited to take on this position," Ed said. “I look forward to collaborating with the amazing Genesis team and helping continue its great work for our incredible community of entrepreneurs."
The Board of Directors and the Genesis team are excited about what's to come. With Ed's proven leadership and entrepreneurial track record, Genesis is ready to continue supporting startups and driving innovation across Newfoundland and Labrador.
